| | New take on an old sceneFebruary 21, 2011 - Jennifer BrookensFor Christmas, a friend of mine got an Anne Taintor calendar and she just had to show it to me. I'd never heard of Anne Taintor. But we thumbed through the calendar, and I was an instant fan. Taintor's "art" is taking the long-ago ads from the 1940s-60s, showing women all dolled up just to do the dishes, and giving them the sarcastic, biting twist of what may really be going through her mind. Most are laugh out loud, a few made me blush, but most women will probably identify with a few of these vintage humor observations. On her Web site, annetaintor.com, there is an actual contest every month for followers to submit their own captions for a given vintage photo. I entered last month, but didn't make the cut. (For once, an occasion where I am not sarcastic enough!) Looks like I could learn more about my art of self-expression if I keep checking in. Or at least get a few laughs and gift ideas. (See a few of Taintor's pieces featured off to the side here). As Anne herself would say, "An attitude is a terrible thing to waste." Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
