And the Losers are...
January 27, 2011 - Jennifer Brookens
I used to watch movies. Until I had kids. Now most of my movies are limited to Disney and Nickelodeon character movies.
So I may not be up on the latest movie gossip, but at the same time I miss out on wasting money on bad movies. That's when I turn to the Razzies. (And let's face it, this time of year is pretty boring for entertainment for those of us who don't get a thrill of spending hours out on a frozen pond!) I know a lot of people probably think, "Why waste so much time and energy on something BAD?!" Well, these movies Do exist, so there goes that argument. Besides, there's definitely a sense of humor about it. For example, one year "Mariah Carey's cleavage" was nominated as worst onscreen couple for her movie-bomb "Glitter." (She lost that year, due to the awful Tom Green comedy "Freddy Got Fingered" sweeping the Razzies.) In the past few years, the nominee list has been made up of popular movies, and ones that should've just gone to the DVD bargain rack. But no clean sweeps for awhile like Tom Green or the "Bennifer" disaster "Gigli."
And once in awhile, the Razzies make the mainstream news - after all, a few years ago Halle Barry showed up and claimed her Razzie for "Catwoman" and the next day grabbed an Oscar for "Monster's Ball." Gotta love a good sport!
The cool thing is that for $25, you can join the melee. Just check out the Razzie link here (off to the right on this page), plus see the 2010 nominees. Agree, disagree, or maybe even make your own list - it's all in fun!
