| | Late night at the officeJanuary 25, 2011 - Meg AlexanderIt's a late night tonight at the Sentinel — nearly midnight — and I am writing this blog as my editor whittles and whacks away at my article from Fairmont's City Council meeting. I don't take it personally. I've been on the other end, and I know what it's like trying to fit a 50-inch story into a 20-inch space. Normally, I restrain myself and limit my word count, but tonight was tougher than usual. The meeting went on for about three hours, with most of the time dedicated to the city's future water treatment plant, with members of the audience presenting their arguments on why Fairmont should use groundwater instead of drawing from Budd Lake. As for my personal take on the groundwater/surface water debate, I'm going to leave that one alone, at least until I get paid to have a professional opinion — and I don't count on joining our editorial board anytime soon. That said, the revisions are nearly done, and it sounds like you, the readers, will be in luck, unless you were looking for a quick read, that is. Not much had to be cut after all.
