Dreaming...

December 27, 2010 - Kylie Saari
Up until today I was pretty content with the weather, despite the large snowfall. It is December after all, and snow is what we get in Minnesota. So when I picked up my mail and found a Gurney's catalog I snickered at the thought of gardening and simultaneously thought how close spring must be. Then, flipping through the brightly colored pages filled with pictures of garden tomatoes, fresh spinach, and vibrant flowers, I noticed a little yearning creep into my heart. A yearning for the sun on my back and the smell of fresh dirt in my nostrils. I began dreaming of all the new flowers I could plant, the colors I could have this year, the taste of fresh produce. And just like that, in the space of about 10 minutes, I began to hate winter. To think of counting down the days until spring, and begin planning my summer activities. So learn from my experience, please. If you have no problem with the snow covered ground, if you like to brag about your winter survival skills to all out-of-staters, don't open your gardening catalog until at least March. You will thank me.
