Rage Against the Pants II: Clothing Wars
September 8, 2010 - Jennifer Brookens
Just in time for the nights to get cooler, my son has become a fan of sleeping in the nude. And being nude in general.
What was simply a rebellion against pants this summer has now become a full-fledged clothing war with my three-year-old. Even his favorite Cars shirt gets hurled across the room if attempted to be pulled over his head. Diapers are tolerated if worn solo, but will come off with the clothes if angered. One of the cats inadvertently was hit by a flying diaper during one of The Boy's clothes tantrums this weekend. And dressing in more than tank tops and shorts makes him all the more angry. I risk a broken nose with shoes. An attempt to duct tape the zipper on his PJs last night worked for only 15 minutes. Sure enough, an hour later, the PJs/duct tape were wadded up in a corner, and my son was sleeping naked except for his favorite blue blankey, curled up in his stuffed animal corner. Cute, except now I have to wash the blue blankey again. Blue blankey will be a blue rag soon if it has to go through the wash every day.
But what is making me cringe most: Tomorrow is his first day of preschool. And he rides the bus. I've already been assured that he likely won't be facing any indecency laws, but I expect there may be some interesting phone calls from the school these first few weeks. Just hoping I don't have to write them up in the police blotter.
