January 13, 2010 - Jennifer Brookens
In the bleak of January, my beloved mother called me excited about another trip. But instead of just asking me to watch her cats, her approach was different.
"You wanna come to the Bahamas with me?"
I wasted no time saying, "Heck yeah!" when she said, "For real, do you want to go to the Bahamas with me." Again I answered, "For real, heck yeah!"
The dates are not set (but at this point can't come soon enough), but sometime between now and the beginning of hurricane season, the entire family is taking a cruise to the Bahamas. It will be a first for the Brookens clan, whereas my mother the world traveler has been on several cruises already. The last time we were on a vacation other than road trips to see relatives was before the kids came into our lives. And it will be only the second time in my life that I will be able to see the ocean.
I've already started looking into the details of whether we need passports (hearing conflicting reports there) and what sort of safety gear will the kids need for flying (again, conflicting reports). Not to mention changing the picture on my laptop (had a tough time choosing between these three). But there is one downside to this: finding a bathing suit! EEK! Time to get back to the gym - stat!!
But not even that is going to deter me from looking forward to and enjoying this wonderful once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Did I mention that I have the most awesome Mom in the world? Well, I already knew that well before last weekend's phone call...
