And they're off!

December 31, 2009 - Kylie Saari
The Minnesota gubernatorial race is off to quite a start, with 15 candidates confirming their intention to run, and nearly two dozen fishing around, playing with idea of running the state government. So far, I have mostly seen the standard — "Minnesota is a great play to live; let's keep it that way!"

This rhetoric drives me crazy.

Of course it is a great place to live. Even if it wasn't I sure don't think someone who thinks the place really stinks should be in charge.

It is in examining their websites that we can find out of anyone really knows how to make a difference.

It turns out, no one is telling.

Site after site talks about the "issues" as each candidates sees them, they are adept at identifying the source of the problem — usually past government officials and sometimes rivals on the campaign trail — but rarely will they give any idea of how a issue is to be resolved.

One outright says we have been without tax increases for too long! Really? I want to know what Minnesota they are living in.

They are so vague they can possibly offend anyone, but also aren't convincing me they are any better than anyone else.

An Associated Press story suggested that this race with be particularly nasty, and seem especially long.

Hopefully after parties endorse their candidates we will end up getting some real information about how these people plan to change our lives. I don't know how much more "Minnesota's great, rah-rah-rah" I can handle.
