He's not a centrist after all
February 26, 2009 - Lee Smith
President Obama has lost his mind. Seriously.
On Thursday, he laid out his budget plan. He wants to raise taxes on the "rich", punish investment, begin instituting national health care, drive up utility bills, spend extensively on domestic programs and double the federal debt over the next 10 years. What in the world?
As House Minority Leader John Boehner wryly notes: "The era of big government is back."
I suspect Obama doesn't understand the dislike people felt for George W. Bush and the Republican congresses of 1994-2006. Their wasteful spending horrified voters. How are they going to feel about Obama's profligate destruction of any hopes for rational federal spending?
I do not understand why the federal government cannot enact balanced budgets, just as states are forced to do. You set your tax rates, gauge your revenue and pass spending bills that match revenue. Sometimes you may have to borrow money, but you pay back the principal as well as the interest, just like our cities, counties and states.
The aura of unreality emanating from Washington is painful to see.
