snow days....

So it's 6:30 a.m. and I'm listening to the radio announcements calling out all the closed schools... Yet again, another brutal winter storm comes roaring through with several days of below-zero temperatures promised afterward. And even though the kids get out of school, the rest of us working slobs are still expected to hike it in and keep on working.

Wouldn't it be nice if adults could get snow days, too? Of course, I doubt it'd be as fanciful as the TV and movies, with everyone out making snowmen, ice skating in the park and a few scattered snowball fights. I know I would be just as bored as I was this weekend, dragging myself from household chore to chore. The only way I'd enjoy a snow day is if I would be allowed to hibernate like the bear I must've been in a former life. But with two little kids running around, that just does NOT happen. Several weeks worth of cabin fever weekends have taught me that.

And we're not even halfway through January yet. But I keep telling myself no matter how I envy the kids with their snow days, they're the ones who will still be stuck in the classrooms making it up in June... Give them a little taste of what it's like in the real world when they're stuck working no matter how nice or how awful the weather.
