Bitter cold and bronchitis
January 8, 2014 - Jennifer Brookens
I think even the most hearty Norseman would have to say this Polar Vortex we experienced earlier this week was just too much cold! This cold spell came with an additional degree of difficulty when both my daughter and I were diagnosed with bronchitis.
By Friday, school was already canceled for Monday, and I had bought enough groceries to hopefully survive a full week (but of course, we only lasted until today). That night, the coughing fits my daughter and I had fought for nearly a month were getting worse. At one point, my daughter appeared to not even be able to breathe. Needless to say, that scared me enough to get us both to the doctor once and for all and we both got diagnosed with bronchitis.
Yet at the same time, it was a great opportunity to catch up on my TV watching, even though what programs I could watch were limited due to hovering kids. It seemed the cold even took out some of their aggression, and I only had to order The Boy into time out once on Monday. But I will also admit despite the cold, I was relieved to have the kids back in school and my life back to so-called normal on Tuesday. The urge to hang out in my pajamas and catch up on "The Big Bang Theory" was pretty intense, but it gives me something to look forward to the next time I have some time for myself this season. Which means my next weekend off with subdued kids will be in the year 2018. Maybe "The Big Bang Theory" will be on Netflix by then...
