| | NaNoWriMoOctober 22, 2008 - Jennifer BrookensI have been challenged yet again by another writer friend of mine to participate in the insanity that is NaNoWriMo. No, it's not a Mork and Mindy thing (hey, I thought that at first too!) NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. Each November, NaNoWriMo.org offers the challenge for writers and non-writers alike to try to write a 50,000-word novel in one month's time. No cash rewards or anything; just the satisfaction of knowing you did it. I tried it one year with a story idea I had kicked around since my college days. Of course, being a full-time writer and full-time mom puts a strain on what all I was able to do, but I was able to get a 1,200-word short story expanded to 25,000 words and it got the creative juices flowing. The group encourages you to start fresh... no take-offs from last year and the site gives lots of helpful hints for getting started and getting unstuck. I just finished the book "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer - who had never written a book and just based this best-seller off a dream she had. She had the novel completed in 3 months, and managed to turn it all into a popular series that is now being made into a movie. Maybe it's my turn this time... I have no idea what I will write about, it was a stretch for even this blog today. But I gotta at least try... Wish me luck! Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
