For Senate: Klobuchar has proven her worth

We do not always agree with U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., but we always respect her. As do the vast majority of Minnesotans. Why? Because Klobuchar is honest and she does her job with integrity.

She also does it effectively, particularly in an era in which politics has absolutely torn apart otherwise sensible people and left them glaring at one another with hatred. Klobuchar, in contrast, works with others, including Republicans. She has been a leading voice for consumers and farmers, among others, bringing along her colleagues to pass compromise legislation aimed at solving problems. It has been noted that during the Trump presidency, Klobuchar has been the lead Democrat on 20 bills that have passed. Her work has addressed issues such as school safety, elder abuse and the opioid crisis.

Then there is this: If more Democrats, and more Republicans, took the approach that Klobuchar does to the issues, we believe many major political stumbling blocks in our nation today could be resolved. That is, actually dealt with and taken off the table, instead of festering year in and year out. While not everyone would be happy with everything that resulted, at least Americans could go back to treating each other with civility and accepting the differences in others. It’s too much to hope, we suppose, but it’s not beyond Minnesotans’ power to send Klobuchar back to the Senate. We believe they should, and so lend her our endorsement in her race against Republican Jim Newberger, a state representative.
