Let us think of others

To the Editor:

Volunteering is a true expression of caring by sharing your skills and time to achieve a greater goal. With the Kids Against Hunger campaign quickly coming up, this would be a great time to gather family or a group of friends and create a team to assist in building the meals made available to those in need.

This year’s pack will be held Feb. 17 at St. John Vianney School in Fairmont. There will be three packing shifts: 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Kids Against Hunger in Martin County has packed more than 965,000 meals over the past nine years. The goal for this 10th year is to put together 125,000 meals.

Of course, this doesn’t come without a cost, and all donations will go toward the success of this nutritional pack.

Many families struggle to ensure their family has enough food to eat. This isn’t only true of other countries, bigger metro areas or even other counties. This is true for Martin County, our community, our hometown. Ten percent of the build from 2017 stayed in this community. Heaven’s Table Food Shelf, as well as other southern Minnesota and northern Iowa food shelves, were recipients of these meals. The cases come to us free of charge and are used to help the many families stretch their food dollar.

Please consider giving of your time and money to this valuable activity. The giving of yourself so that others may thrive is indeed one of the greatest gifts.
