Relay appreciates help

To the Editor:

Martin County Relay for Life raised about $85,000 this year. We couldn’t do this without our many generous sponsors who donated almost $25,000 and our Relay teams And everyone who donated to the teams. Thanks to all.

This money does many things. It helps pay for lodging for patient and caregiver at Hope Lodge, helps patients get to treatment and back through the Road to Recovery program, supports Reach to Recovery volunteers as they visit newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, covers the cost of providing information to those facing cancer, helps guide patients through their cancer journey through the Patient Navigation Program and funds groundbreaking research and new clinical trials

At Relay for Life events, no one faces cancer alone. We come together every year at more than 3,500 Relay events around the country to support and celebrate survivors and caregivers. When you participate in a Relay for Life event, you become a vital part of the American Cancer Society. You become a volunteer. You are now part of an organization of 3.5 million survivors, patients, advocates, volunteers, caregivers and researchers doing everything within our power to save lives.

By selflessly devoting your time and energy through raising awareness and money, you become the voice of the American Cancer Society in your community. It’s a big job. And it’s not one that we take for granted. So thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to save lives and celebrate life every day.

The 2018 Relay for Life will be June 22, 2018, at the Martin County Fairgrounds.
