House of Hope offers thanks

To the Editor:

A big thank you to the Martin County Area Foundation for its generous contributions to House of Hope III, our addictions and mental health treatment center on Indus Drive in Fairmont. Your 2016 gifts totaling $8,400 have helped our clients and staff develop an important and powerful part of their recovery: the Wellness/Meditation Center.

Since 2012, the Wellness Center project changed and grew as our buildings and ground manager found remodel challenges. In addition, staff asked for specific exercise equipment and a specific meditation area complete with the appropriate materials.

Almost all of us in our society are familiar with addiction problems, alcohol abuse and mental health challenges. Recovery research acknowledges exercise, meditation and other stress management techniques support ongoing recovery.

I would also like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the various churches, businesses and individuals that have provided monetary and in-kind gifts to the Fairmont House of Hope since its opening in 2012.

Thank you to all the individuals who have donated to the Martin County Area Foundation, formerly the Fairmont Community Foundation. Your contributions are being well used. Our Fairmont facility treats over 100 clients per year, both men and women, and the demand keeps increasing.
