Library extends thanks

To the Editor:

Thanks to the hard work of many, the Martin County Library in Fairmont received a much-needed facelift. New carpet was installed throughout the building, along with newly re-upholstered chairs and other small touches.

Many thanks to the Martin County Board of Commissioners, the Martin County Library Board and the Fairmont City Council for supporting this project.

Last but not least, thank you to our library patrons for their patience and understanding during our closure.

If you haven’t yet had the chance, we hope you will come and see our new look.

Please join mission

To the Editor:

A mission can be defined as a very important assignment. We often think of a mission assignment as a trip to a faraway destination with the goal of helping other people. Mission assignments can happen in our own community when we work together.

One mission that has been happening in our community is the food pack for Kids Against Hunger. This is an event that packs nutritious rice-based meals for distribution to our local food shelves and out to over 60 countries in the world. People of all ages have gathered together as work groups, families, friends and service groups to be part of a fun afternoon that will benefit people near and far.

Plans are underway for the next Kids Against Hunger food pack to be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at the Fairmont National Guard Armory. We invite you to join this mission by forming a team and raising money to purchase the food ingredients and cover shipping costs.

The youth of our community are leading the way by planning and producing a talent show/concert that will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at Fairmont Jr./Sr. High School. This fun evening is an important fundraiser for Kids Against Hunger and highlights some amazing youth talent and leadership.

For more information on joining this mission, please visit our local website kahfairmontmn.weebly.com/. I have been privileged to be part of this mission for over six years and I look forward to having you join us for Kids Against Hunger in 2017.

Club offers thanks

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Fairmont Cardinal Booster Club we would like to thank the following businesses that supported Fairmont Area schools’ athletics/activities by sponsoring tailgate parties this fall: El Agave at the Pepfest, Center for Specialty Care, Fairmont Fire Fighters and Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont. Their generosity from these events provided over $2,600 toward Cardinal extracurricular activities.

We are blessed to live in a community in which so much backing is given by these and other local businesses. Thank you. It’s a great day to be a Cardinal.

Support appreciated

To the Editor:

The FWBA/USBC officers would like to thank the Ladies Commercial and the Ladies Stars and Strikes bowling leagues of the Fairmont Women’s Bowling Association for their participation in the Strike Against Cancer fundraiser for 2016. Our donation of $300 is designated for the infusion department to aid breast cancer patients by buying hats for them to wear during their chemo treatment in Fairmont. Thanks to you, we can keep our infusion department equipped with supplies needed to help the cancer patients. Thank you all for your support and donations.
