Vote for Hagedorn

To the Editor:

The upcoming presidential election will have the most long-lasting effect on the direction our country will go for decades. We are living in a time when our current administration is evermore taking away our rights through executive orders and imposing its will upon the people.

Our current congressman, Tim Walz, is in lockstep with the Obama administration and by extension, Hillary Clinton. He has fully endorsed the ACA, commonly known as Obamacare. Jim Hagedorn will vote to repeal the ACA and replace it with a system that will give competition between insurance companies across state lines. We will also see health savings accounts.

We had a health pool long before Obamacare and it worked out quite well. Today’s premiums have increased from 50 percent to almost 100 percent. In my family, one premium went from $1,800 per month, with a $6,000 deductible, to $3,500 per month with the same deductible and more restricted coverage. This is a system that’s so bad that the cost is more than many people can earn in an entire year in southern Minnesota. Who can afford this monstrosity?

Walz supports the Clean Water Act that gives the EPA the ability to make its own rules as it goes along, hampering agriculture and farming operations throughout the country. Hagedorn supports the REINS Act, which would give Congress the right to affirm or deny regulations put forth by the EPA. The WOTUS Act gives the EPA literally control of every drop of water that falls on agriculture. This is very excessive.

Walz supports abortion in the seventh, eighth and ninth month when we know that the fetus is a viable living human being. He has voted against a bill that would require prompt medical attention to babies that survive abortion. Jim Hagedorn is 100 percent pro-life and is endorsed by MCCL. He will protect life … period. Since Roe v. Wade went into effect, we have had a number of abortions that equal the population of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. Think about it!

Walz has supported the Iran Nuclear Arms Agreement, which in 10 years, lets Iran develop nuclear arms with no restrictions. Time means nothing to them and poses a more dangerous situation for the next generation. This has been described as one of the worst decisions that this administration has made.

In these times, it’s not what government tells you what they’ve done for us, it’s what they’ve done to us. Thomas Jefferson has been quoted as saying “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.” We are literally owned by our government. It’s time for a change.

Jim Hagedorn represents that change. I urge you, the citizen, to vote for Hagedorn for First District Congressman.

Asking for your vote

To the Editor:

Election Day, Nov. 8, will soon be here. I think many community members are ready for the day to finally arrive. I have to admit, I am ready for the election to be over.

One of my campaign goals was to walk the city neighborhoods to deliver door hangers or brochures. With the help of friends and family, we have delivered 2,500 throughout the city.

When visiting with citizens, a comment I heard quite often was, “Fairmont needs more jobs that offer wages that can support a family.” The topic of business/industry growth was addressed during the recent live forum involving mayoral and council candidates.

I did some research on economic development committees and found there are numerous committees working very hard in Fairmont and in Martin County. These committees are made up of local bankers, small and large business owners, industry leaders, and local government staff members. I am impressed by the commitment and dedication of so many of our business leaders to bring growth and prosperity to our community and our county. Fairmont needs economic development to be a priority for our future. I have so much to learn by listening as these leaders share their knowledge and expertise.

The voice that I can bring to the table of economic development is my experience as a proud member of the committed workforce available in Fairmont and the surrounding area. I have been an employee my entire life. I can assure prospective business/industry leaders or current business/industry leaders that would like to expand, that Fairmont and the surrounding area has the strongest, most devoted workforce in all of Minnesota. One of the challenges we face is that the unemployment rate in Fairmont and Martin County is quite low. We need the number of available and reliable employees to increase. I will be the loudest cheerleader for Fairmont and will not stop until a task is completed.

It would be an honor to serve you as mayor of the city of Fairmont. I humbly ask for your vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
