Kathryn E. Tow

FAIRMONT — Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn “Kathy” E. Tow, 90, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont.

Kathryn passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 13, 2018, at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont. Memorials are preferred to UHD Hospice or St. John Vianney Endowment Fund. Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kathryn Erlene Tow was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Fairmont, Minn., to Earl and Clara Smith. She received her education from Fairmont Public Schools. On Jan. 20, 1947, Kathy was united in marriage to Marlin Gilbertson in Fairmont. They made their home in Fairmont until 1959 when they moved to California where they lived until Marlin passed away in 1970. After his death, Kathy moved back to Fairmont. Kathy worked for JC Penney’s in California and in Fairmont once she moved back where she was a sales supervisor for 25 years.

On Jan. 3, 1972, Kathy was united in marriage to Lou Toye in Fairmont. Lou passed away on Jan. 25, 1980. On Feb. 23, 2006, Kathryn was united in marriage to Donald Tow in Fairmont. They were together for 32 years before he passed away in 2013. Kathy was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and involved in the St. Michael Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign War. Kathy enjoyed gardening and loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Kristine Gilbertson of Fairmont, James (Dawn) Gilbertson of Brandon, S.D., Kathy (Jerry) Sukalski of Fairmont, and Karen Zwiefel of Swea City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special friend, Don Justice of Fairmont; sister, Lucille Nicholson of Pawpaw, Ill.; sister-in-law, Susan Smith of Blue Earth; brother-in-law, Lee Larimore of Wadena; many nieces, nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Marlin Gilbertson, Lou Toye and Donald Tow; son, Stephen Gilbertson; grandson, Joseph Gilbertson; two brothers, Martin Smith and Howard Smith; and sister, Clarice Larimore.
