FAIRMONT — A visitation for Helen A. Gould, 79, of Fairmont, Minn., will be from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with a time of sharing memories and special stories beginning at 6 p.m.

To facilitate family travel and give grandchildren and foreign exchange students time to be here to celebrate Helen’s life, funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Dec. 27, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, with burial at Lakeside Cemetery, following a time of fellowship at the church.

Helen passed away Friday afternoon Dec. 7, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Helen Ann (Borchardt) Gould was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Emma (Saxen) Borchardt. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, Minn., and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, and graduated from Fairmont High School.

In 1956, Helen was united in marriage to Richard Gould and they were blessed with three children: Mark, Scott and Tari. They enjoyed 62 years of married life.

Helen worked a short time at Red Owl and then was a tax preparer for Krahmer Law Firm/Professional Tax Advisors for over 48 years, retiring in 2017.

She loved children and enjoyed teaching them in many different ways; Sunday School and Vacation Bible School; piano and accordion lessons; Cub Scout Den Mother and Jr. Achievement leader.

Her faith was very important to her and she served in many capacities at Grace Lutheran including Chancel Choir, LWML, Circle, Luther League Advisor and intern committee.

She served the Fairmont School for over 26 years and as treasurer of Partners In Education for over 25 years.

In addition, she was chairwoman of Martin County Republicans and treasurer for Robert Gunther Committee for over 20 years.

The Fairmont community was very important to her and she gave her support and membership to the Fairmont Opera House, Martin County Historical Society, Red Rock Center, Heritage Acres, AFS, Fairmont Concert Association and Dollars for Scholars.

Helen and her husband were avid Cardinal Fans and would be found in the stands supporting sports, concerts and plays done by Cardinal students.

She loved to entertain family and friends on many occasions at their home. In spite of a busy volunteer schedule, the needs and activities of her children and grandchildren always came first. She was also host mother to Ralf Hamann of Esslingen, Germany; Barbara Parodi of Coquimbo, Chile; Ann Marie Thielsen of Hamburg, Germany, and Dave Murphy of Fairmont, Minn.

Helen and Dick loved to play “500,” cribbage, and travel. They toured 38 countries over her lifetime.

Helen is survived by her husband, Dick Gould of Fairmont, Minn.; sons, Mark (Karen) Gould of Oconomowoc, Wis., Scott (Teresa ) Gould of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Tari Riley of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Kristian Gould, Marit Gould, David Gould, Calia Gould, Jami Riley, Robby Riley, and Sasha Riley; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Barbakken, Henry Gould and Nils Gould; as well as many other extended family and friends.

The family requests memorials be given in Helen’s name to Grace Lutheran Church, 300 S. Grant St., Fairmont, MN 56031; Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 563, Fairmont, MN, 56031; and Partners in Education, 714 Victoria St., Fairmont, MN 56031.
