NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — A memorial service for James W. Baker, age 47, of Norwood Young America, Minn., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222, immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

James passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

James William Baker was born Dec. 11, 1970, in Fairmont, Minn., to James A. and Dorothy “Dottie” (Rothe) Baker. He grew up in the Granada-Huntley area and graduated high school in Norwood Young America. Following his high school graduation, James enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country for 3 1/2 years before his honorable discharge.

After serving in the Army, James was trained on the job at Pro Mold in Berthoud, Colo. In 2000, he moved back to Minnesota with his son, Cody, and began working for Central Insulation, where he continued to work until his death.

James loved the outdoors, sheep, poultry and waterfowl. On weekends he would make sure to be home so he could watch NASCAR and the NFL. He took great pride in his yard, keeping things tidy and in order.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his son, Cody Baker; parents, James A. and Bonnie Baker; siblings, Mike Baker and his wife, Cathy, Rhonda Gies and her husband, Todd, Jason Baker, Holly Smedley and her husband, Troy; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. James was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Baker; grandparents, George and Mildred Rothe, Ray Nagel, and James “Fred” and Irene Baker; uncles, Bruce Rhodes, Dave Baker, Dave Laven, and Bill Eickoff; aunts, Mari Baker and Marvel Eickoff.
