FAIRMONT — Services for Perry E. Harris, 89, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. A private family burial will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery, with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 of Fairmont.

Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Perry passed away Monday afternoon, April 23, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Fairmont.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Perry E. Harris was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Truman, Minn., the son of Philo “Pete” James and Pearl Lucille (Jones) Harris. He was baptized and later confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Perry attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1946.

Following graduation, Perry worked for Nelson’s Ice Cream Company. In September 1948, Perry enlisted with the U.S. Navy, where he served his country aboard the USS Albany C-A 123.

In September 1952, Perry received his honorable discharge and returned home to Minnesota, where he married LaVonne Loewe on May 2, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Together, the couple made their home in Fairmont and was blessed with two children, Sandra and Steven.

Perry worked for Kahler Electric and also farmed. In 1968, he began working for Na-Churs Plant Food Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

Perry was a member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222.

Perry loved the outdoors and looked forward to days spent hunting and fishing and shared that love with others being a member of the Martin County Conservation Club.

Faith was important to Perry and he was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served as a church elder.

Family was also very important to Perry and he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sandra Graf and her husband, Jerry, of Amboy, Minn., Steven Harris and his wife, Lynn, of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Jason Klous and his wife, Amy, of Luck, Wis., Crystal Hardinger and her husband, Mark, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Callie Pien and her husband, Stephen, of Detroit, Mich., Jason Harris and his wife, Jennifer, of Fairmont, Joshua Harris and his wife, Elizabeth, of St. Peter, Minn., and Courtney Steubs and her husband, Michael, of Edina, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Alaina Harris, Kaitlyn Harris, Addison Harris, Hudson Hardinger, William Pien, and soon to be Baby Harris; sister, Wanda Ganske of Mankato, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Laurabelle Brockman of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Boni Loewe of Walker, Minn.; brother-in-law, Jack Silker of Baxter, Minn.; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Philo “Pete” and Pearl Harris; wife, LaVonne Harris; sisters, Neva Kost and Joan Silker; brothers-in-law, Art Kost, Dale Ganske, Eldon Brockman and Max Loewe.
