LEDYARD — Evelyn M. Johnson died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minn., at the age of 85.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2018, at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa, with Pastor Samuel Belz officiating.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard. She will be laid to rest at Harrison Township Cemetery, rural Swea City, Iowa.

Evelyn M. (Schwartz) Johnson was born Feb. 3, 1933, on a farm near Swea City, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Olga (Simonsmeier) Schwartz. She received her education in Swea City schools.

On Oct. 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Donald Johnson in Ledyard. After their marriage, the couple farmed for many years. Don and Evelyn sold furniture and operated Johnson’s Country Classics for several years.

She was a very active member of Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church, serving in the church choir. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, reading, canning vegetables, gardening and her flowers.

Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her children: Randy (Deb) Johnson of Swea City, Vincent (Julie) Johnson of Swea City, Laura (Wade) Barslou of Blue Earth; six grandchildren, Nadel (Tom), Quinn (Heather), Lindsy (Roby), Lacey (Matt), Dallas and Samantha; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Jim) Smith; brother, Fred (Rose) Schwartz; and brother-in-law, Joe (Elaine) Johnson.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; husband, Don; brothers, Edwin, Ervin, Harold; and sisters, Florence Clayton, Lillian Smith and Erna Doocy.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minn.
