On Sept. 9, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage to Ervin Henry Schaefer at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn. Together the couple made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with four children, Thomas, Douglas, Barbara and Patricia.

Ruth worked for many years at Stokely-Van Camp and also worked at various cafés in town where she was known for her cooking.

Following her retirement on Oct. 15, 1981, Ruth and Ervin enjoyed spending the winter months in Zapata, Texas. Ruth was hard-working and took pride in keeping her home immaculate. She loved tending to her flowers and working in her garden.

Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor and found great joy in keeping people on their toes with her quick wit. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and looked forward to days spent on the lake fishing with them. Christmas was a special time for Ruth and she treasured the many memories made throughout the years hosting the family Christmas.

Ruth was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont in addition to being a member of the Eagles Club #2204 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1222 Auxiliary.
