FAIRMONT — Services for Glen M. Personius, 83, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at the Christian Church of Fairmont. Burial will be in the Tenhassen Township Cemetery near Ceylon, Minn., with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222.

Glen passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, 2017, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Glen Martin Personius was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of William Henry and Lura Louise (Martin) Personius. Glen began his education attending a one-room classroom country school near Fairmont, Minn. He would go on to attend Fairmont Public Schools and graduated from Fairmont High School. Following his graduation, Glen enrolled at the University of Minnesota, where he obtained a degree in Aero Engineering and commissioned as an officer through ROTC.

On July 6, 1957, Glen was united in marriage to Jeanne Swanberg in Minneapolis, Minn. Together, the couple would make their home at various places throughout the U.S and Canada and were blessed with four children: Jay, Vaughn, Dawn and Alan.

In February of 1958, Glen entered active duty in the U.S. Air Force and he would further his education attending the Air Force Institute of Technology. While proudly serving his country, Glen worked as a test pilot and also as an exchange test pilot with Canada, where he spent three years. During the years of conflict, Glen flew missions in the B-52 in the Cold War and flew B-57 bombing missions during the Vietnam War. He retired and received his honorable discharge from the Pentagon on Sept. 1, 1979.

After retiring from the Air Force, he returned home and bought Fairmont Flying Service, which he operated for 18 years.

Glen was a very active member of the Christian Church of Fairmont and was also very active in Kiwanis as well as being a member of the American Legion for many years. He had a special place in his heart for veterans and joined the Disabled American Veterans. Glen was also instrumental in Habitat for Humanity in Fairmont.

In his spare time, Glen’s passion was flying. When not soaring through the sky, he treasured days spent hunting with family and friends and was a tremendous woodworker.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Personius of Fairmont, Minn.; children, Jay (Maureen) Personius of Fort Worth, Texas, Dawn (Mike) Braund of Kiester, Minn., and Alan (Julie) Personius of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Kayleen (Nick) Meyer, Kristin Personius, David (Rebekah) Personius, Caroline (Dallas) Kaemmerling, Matthew Braund, Kimberly (Jeff) Winder, Jennifer (Matthew) Silber, Katherine (Ryan) Easterling, Sarah Personius, and Daniel Personius; great-grandchildren, Adeline Meyer and Roland Easterling; brothers-in-law, Chuck Hartke and Roy (Jan) Swanberg; sister-in-law, Joanne (Tom) Weyrick; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Personius; infant son, Vaughn Personius; sisters, Jean Koch and Vera Hartke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Irmel Swanberg; and brother-in-law, Bob Koch.

The family requests memorials be given in Glen’s name to the Christian Church of Fairmont or the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa.
