Thelma B. Wassman

ORMSBY — A public graveside service for Thelma B. Wassman, 97, of Truman, formerly of rural Ormsby, Minn., will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Galena Township, rural Ormsby, Minn. with Rev. John Meyer, officiating. There will be a Service of Remembrance 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Galena Township, rural Ormsby, Minn.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont. Messages of sympathy can be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com.

Thelma Beatrice Anderson Wassman passed away at the age of 97, one day before her 98th birthday at Truman Senior Living in Truman, Minn. Thelma was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Galena Township, Martin County, Minn., daughter of Carl and Mina (Stenberg) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Waverly Lutheran Church and attended a one room country school (Martin County School District #82) in Waverly Township. She graduated from St. James High School and St. Olaf College. Following college she taught in high schools at Sioux Valley and Hayfield, Minn. and in rural Watonwan County School Districts #32 and #27. Thelma married Ervin Wassman in 1945 and joined Immanuel Lutheran Church of Galena where she taught Sunday school, VBS, Release time, sang in the choir and was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. As a member of the Truman Retirement Home Auxiliary, she enjoyed many years as a Re-motivation leader and also was appreciated for her lefse-making contributions. She served on the Women’s committee of the Martin County Farm Bureau and wrote regular articles for the state Farm Bureau Newspaper. She also enjoyed participating in the Watonwan County Home Economics Teachers Club, Home Extension club and Garden Club. Ervin and Thelma farmed all their lives in rural Ormsby, Minn., on the border of Martin and Watonwan counties. Thelma loved gardening, canning, baking, and working on sewing projects including piecing World Relief Quilts. Survivors include two daughters, Carola Cantrall (Bob) of Dixon, Calif., Barbara Johnson (Rick) of Daniel, Wyo.; two sons, Gary Wassman (Linda) of Truman, Minn., Brian Wassman (Julie) of Scandia, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mina Anderson; husband, Ervin; granddaughter, Leah Voosen; sister and brother-in-law, Merle and Marion Gaalswyk; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clair and Dorothy Anderson and Sanford and Bernice Anderson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Ed Koester; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elsie and Edwin Hilgendorf; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norbert and Martha Wassman.
