Bette Jean Bishop

EDEN PRAIRIE — Bette Jean Bishop passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 20, 2017, at St. John Vianney Church in Fairmont, Minn.

Bette was born Nov. 8, in Graettinger, Iowa, to John and Florence Swift. Bette graduated from Graettinger High School in 1941 and attended Mankato Business School.

She married Warren Bishop on Nov. 10, 1941. Their 72-year marriage was blessed with four children: John, Linda, David and Jim.

Warren and Bette moved to Fairmont in 1956 and lived there until she moved to The Colony in Eden Prairie, Minn., in 2013, where she enjoyed the staff and many friends she made there. Bette loved being a homemaker, tending to her garden and spending time with family and friends.

Warren and Bette were outstanding duplicate (tournament) bridge players and enjoyed traveling to various regional bridge tournaments in the Midwest and in the Southwest during the winter months after retirement. When the National Duplicate Bridge tournament was held in Minneapolis, they qualified for the national finals for couple’s bridge. Bridge was also a way for Bette to spend time with her friends in the many bridge groups she was part of in Fairmont.

Bette was a member of St. John Vianney Church and St. Francis Circle during the time she lived in Fairmont. She was also a member of Interlaken Golf Club, enjoying time with her friends and family more than the golf itself.

Bette is survived by sons, David (Nancy) and Jim (Kathy); 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Warren; daughter, Linda Bohn; son, John Bishop; and grandson, Andrew Bohn.

Memorials may be made to The St. John Vianney School Endowment Fund at 911 S. Prairie, Fairmont, MN 56031 or the American Cancer Society at PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
