NEW ULM — Velma Voigt, 96, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm, with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Velma Hulda Mary Hartung was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Welcome, Minn., to George and Sigrid (Hagestad) Hartung. On Feb. 21, 1943, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Voigt on the family farm. After marriage they farmed in Martin County. Velma enjoyed writing poems, gardening, cooking, reading, playing board games and cards, working word search puzzles, and researching family genealogy. Velma was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Ulm.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Greg) Rasmussen of Alexandria; sons, Lowell Voigt of Grove City, Loren (Jolene) Voigt of Eagan; grandchildren, Roger (Amy) Voigt, Shari (Rick) Weir, Nancy Voigt, Todd Voigt, Kristen Voigt (special friend, Richard Ouradnik), Travis (Emily) Rasmussen, Tracye (Patrick) Eiselt; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Voigt; daughter-in-law, Shirley Voigt; brothers, Ervin Hartung, Gerald Hartung. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, or the D.A.V.
