Stephen A. Brown

HUNTLEY — Stephen A. Brown, age 77, of Huntley, Minn., passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Winnebago, Minn.

He was born Oct. 8, 1939. Steve received his bachelor of science degree in geography on Dec. 12, 2009. He worked hard for 10 years matriculating toward his degree. Starting college at 60 years old and graduating when 70 was a remarkable accomplishment. He was invited to speak at the graduation ceremony as one of a few students. While going to college, Steve enjoyed attending many sporting events and concerts at the Mankato State University campus. He was grateful to his kind and helpful instructors and classmates.

Steve worked as a chef for many years. You were lucky indeed if you ever tasted his own recipes, his clam chowder was second to none! Upon moving back to southern Minnesota, he worked in the food service at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. He often said the best part of the job was the daily contact with the young folks. During this time, he also played his trombone in the local community bands.

Baseball was his life-long favorite sport. Several years ago, he treated himself to a bus tour with other fans and visited all the baseball stadiums on the East Coast.

Steve is survived by his son, Tim (Romi) Brown; and granddaughters, Emily and Reed, all of Maple Grove, Minn.; brother, Stan (Kathy) Brown; and niece and nephew, Kristen and Matthew, all of Long Beach, Calif.; and other loving extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Edith Brown; and infant brother, George.

Steve was a good and faithful servant of our Lord. We know Steve is resting (and joking) with him now. Here’s to you Steve, we love you and will treasure you always. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
