Norma Jean (Witham) Berg

HOUSTON, Texas — Norma Jean (Witham) Berg, 86, was called by our Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in Houston, Texas. A memorial service for Norma Jean will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas.

She was born June 6, 1930, in Center Township, Lake Mills, Iowa, to Howard and Vivian Witham.

Norma married James Berg on Feb. 18, 1950. They had three children, Jon, Robert and Susan. Starting out in Sioux Falls, S.D., she and her husband worked many years in the photography business and later moving to Fairmont Minn., where they had their own studio for over 25 years. They later divorced.

While in Fairmont, she belonged to Grace Lutheran Church, where she loved singing in the choir. She also belonged to the Jaycee’s, The Elks and the Mozart Marching Society (a local choir organization). They performed many concerts and traveled around the region. She was also active in the Civic Summer Theater in Fairmont, performing in several theatrical plays. She loved entertaining and hosting parties for all of these organizations.

In 1986, Norma moved to Houston, Texas, where she later lived with her friend and companion, Ann Larson. While in Houston, she continued in the photography business as office manager for three different photography studios. She was active in her church, garden club, and was an avid gardener herself (including saving many plants neighbors were unable to keep alive).

Norma is survived by her brother, Stanley Witham (Shirley); sister, Audrey Hastings (Jack); son, Robert Berg (Sharon) of Draper, Utah; daughter, Susan Bennett (Mark) of Crawford, Texas; daughter-in-law, Debbie Berg of Nederland, Texas; friend and companion, Ann Larson; her faithful dog, Charlie; grandchildren, Jason, Troy, Krystina, Anthony, Serena, Joseph, James, Jennifer, Casey, Derrick and Anne; 21 great-grandchildren; and many, many dear friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Witham; oldest son, Jon Michael Berg; daughter-in-law, Sun Ae Park Berg; mother, Vivian Ausen Witham; and father, Howard Arthur Witham.

Memorials can be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or any animal rescue organization of your choice.
