Margaret Janette Mair was born July 22, 1916, in Huntley, Minn., to Hugh and Minnie (Duff) Mair. She was one of five sisters and four brothers. Margaret graduated from Huntley Consolidated School in 1934 and then attended Minneapolis Business College, where she graduated from in 1935. She worked in several businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

On May 29, 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Hugo J. Meier at the Mair Home Farm in Huntley. They lived in Stillwater and Minneapolis until 1948. This union was blessed with two sons, Gordon and Jon. In 1948, Margaret and Hugh moved to Fairmont and opened and ran Meier’s Café for 10 years in the shopping center with Gunther’s Grocery Store, Kretzchmar Drug and several other businesses. In those days, Margaret was an active member of the ladies bowling league. In 1957, Margaret became the school secretary for Budd School and held that position until her retirement in 1977, after 20 years of service.

Margaret had a very active retirement for the first 11 years. She traveled every winter with her good friend. Margaret spent six winters in Arizona, two in Hawaii, one each in San Diego, Santa Barbara and Orlando. She was an avid reader and great cook, and a huge Vikings, Twins and golf fan. Margaret attended many Twins and Vikings games until she was in her late 80s. She was a member of Rose Lake Golf Club and golfed until she was 88. Margaret loved driving her new cars, but at age 90 gave up driving, which was a big adjustment.

Margaret was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church for 68 years, and was a member of the Ladies Aid. In 2007, after a slight stroke, Margaret moved into Woodland Manor where she stayed for five years until she had a severe stroke and moved into Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Gordon Meier and his wife, Kay, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Jon Meier and his wife, Jody, of Woodbury, Minn.; granddaughter, Heather Meier of Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandson, Brandon Meier of Cape Coral, Fla.; stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Megan Lee of Woodbury, Minn.; great-stepgrandchildren, Hudson and Willow Lee of Woodbury, Minn.; sister, Eleanor Johnson of Winnebago, Minn.; other extended relatives and many friends.
