Louis L. Petrowiak

FAIRMONT — Mass of Christian Burial for Louis L. Petrowiak, 95, of Fairmont, MN, will be 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain. Interment will be in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 21, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Louis passed away on Saturday morning, February 18, 2017, at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont surrounded by his family.

Louis LeRoy Petrowiak was born on August 29, 1921, in Silver Lake Township, Martin County, MN. He was the son of Edward and Anna (Pytleski) Petrowiak. He attended District 92 school in Silver Lake Township and in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He was stationed in Yuma, Arizona and later in Jamaica until earning his honorable discharge in 1946.

Louis was united in marriage to Lucille Gawinski on May 18, 1954, at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain. This union was blessed with eight children. Together with Lucille, Louis farmed in East Chain as well as being a salesman for Kruger Seeds for many years. He enjoyed farming even after retirement. In August of 1997, they moved off the farm and into Fairmont.

Louis was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain where he was active in the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars. During his free time, Louis enjoyed playing cards and he loved to dance and sing. He also loved spending time with family and friends. Louis had a lively and unforgettable personality.

Those that will honor and cherish his memory include eight children: Kathy Petrowiak of Fairmont; Bernie Petrowiak and wife, Julie, of East Chain, and children, Laura (Tom), Anna (Tedd), Rebecca (Jake), Cathryn; Larry Petrowiak and his wife, Dawn, of Fairmont, and children, Celia, Macy and Holly; Mike Petrowiak and his wife, Patty, of East Chain, and children, Wes, Chris, Adam and Jacob; Sharon Dallager and husband, Lee, of East Chain, and children, Joe, James (Allison), Emily and Michael; Mary Wittmus and husband, Herbie, of Fairmont and children, Ryan (fiancée-Shana), Mitchell and Tailyr; Bob Petrowiak and wife, Maureen, of Fairmont, and children, Evangeline and Elizabeth; Lynda Braun (Fiancée-Scott) of Mankato and children, Cole and Ally; five great grandchildren, Carter, Kennedy, Cecelia, Tyler and Claire; one sister, Dolores Bursaw of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Genevieve Jagodzinski of Joliet, IL; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Edward and Anna Petrowiak, Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Petrowiak; son-in-law, Alan Braun; sisters, Regina Sukalski and husband, Tom, Viola Maday and husband, Walter, Alice Petrowiak, and Margaret Stefanski and husband, Carl; brother-in-law, Duane Bursaw; and parents-in-law, Bernard and Julia Gawinski.

Memorials are preferred to United Hospital District Hospice.
