JACKSON — Violet L. Censky, 85, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at the Sanford Jackson Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the United Methodist Church in Jackson, with Pastor Robert Moorlach officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Riverside Cemetery, Jackson. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services today at the church.
Violet Lucille Westcott was born May 4, 1931, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Thomas Emmett and Ada Lucille (Pullman) Westcott. Violet attended school in Fairmont, graduating in 1949. She worked at the bakery after school, and during the summer at Fairmont Canning Company.
After graduation, she worked for Gene’s Cleaners until her marriage. On Jan. 8, 1956, Violet was united in marriage to Charles Censky Sr. at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. After marriage, Charles and Violet lived on the Censky family farm in Kimball Township, Jackson County, where she was very active in the farming operation throughout her life.
Charlie and Violet moved into Jackson in August 1994. Violet worked for the Jackson Hospital in the housekeeping department for 23 years, from 1972-1996. She also worked part-time at the Good Samaritan Home for a short time.
Violet was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jackson, serving as United Methodist Women’s treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at the nursing home as well.
Violet enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Violet enjoyed writing poetry, whether for her family, her co-workers at the hospital, or for her tour mates on the bus trips Violet and Charlie often took. She also enjoyed practical jokes.
Violet enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved having the grandkids over for play dates and sleepovers, and took them to visit several of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s homes. She was the taxi driver for the grandkids, making sure they got to where they needed to before or after school, and always had the extra bedroom ready for guests. Violet loved having her great grandchildren visit, asking about school and the activities they were involved in.
She was the family historian, cutting out each newspaper article, and keeping a journal about activities on the farm, weather data and crop prices.
Violet is survived by her son, Charles (Lori) Censky Jr, and daughter-in-law, Paula Censky, both of Jackson; four grandchildren, Laura (Bryce) Vancura, Mandy (Trent) Olsen, Tony (Chelsey) Censky, and Adam (Dina) Censky; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb, Renae and Cody Vancura, Callie and Trevor Olsen, Madison and Hayden Censky, and Jaxon and Liam Censky; four sisters, Gladys Sinsel of Texas, Mary (Gary) Kerg of Mississippi, Lois (Bob) Anderson of Fairmont, Velma Roalson of Fairmont; and one brother, Tom (Mary) Westcott of Fairmont.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years Charles; her son, Kenneth Censky; brothers, Lester and Orville Westcott; and sisters, Evelyn Kilmer and Doris Briggs.
