Alvin ‘Bud’ Thompson

WELCOME — A Celebration of Life for Alvin “Bud” Thompson, 77, of Welcome and Fox Lake, Minn., will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Bud passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 14, 2017, at his home on Fox Lake.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Alvin “Bud” Fred Thompson was born July 10, 1939, in Fairmont, Minn., to Fred and Ethel (Smith) Thompson. Growing up, he attended country school in Welcome and began helping on the farm at a young age.

On Aug. 4, 1957, Bud was united in marriage to Alma Pochardt in Sherburn, Minn. Together, they made their home in Martin County and were blessed with three children: Tim, Tom and Tammy. Bud worked many years as an independent truck driver and retired in 2007.

He enjoyed hobby farming, gardening, puttering around in his shop, and most importantly making memories with family and friends. Bud could often be found drinking his morning coffee socializing with many of his friends and family members. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tim Thompson of Welcome, Minn., Tom Thompson of Fairmont, Minn., and Tammy Nowak, and her special friend, David Hill, of Welcome, Minn.; grandchildren, Melissa and Joe Waller, Brad and Brooke Nowak, Jessica Nowak, and Dylan Thompson; great-grandchildren, Madison, Hailey and John Waller, and Hannah, Graham, and Quinn Nowak; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James Mathiason, Leroy Paulson and his wife, Judy, Sharon Lampton and her husband, Richard, Pat Matheney and her husband, Bob, Nanvy Egtvet, and Melvin Pochardt; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Almie Thompson; parents: Ethel and Fred Thompson; mother-and-father-in-law, Melvin and Alma Pochardt; siblings, Richard and Charlotte Thompson, Robert and Fern Thompson, Eileen and Marlin Ebeling, Alice Paulson, Billy Schultz, Doris Armstrong, Elinor and Emy Rikerd, Phyllis Mathiason, Arnold Egtvet, Gary White, Hank Wistrom.
