MCW School hires teachers

SHERBURN — Martin County West School Board learned this week that the indoor swimming pool in Sherburn has been closed because the exhaust fans were not working. They should be fixed this week.

The board also learned there was a leak at the Community Education office in Welcome and some boxes were cleaned out. In the future, this kind of data will be saved electronically.

In other action, the board:

o Learned the kindergarten roundup registered 40 children but some may not attend. The district will move all the kindergarten classes to Sherburn since there are lower numbers in Trimont. There will be three sections.

o Learned makeup days are going well. Monday will be a regular day of school.

o Learned that senior class trip is underway and plans for prom (6 p.m. April 27) and graduation are in the works.

o Approved the hiring of several new teachers for the 2019-2020 school year. They are: Mitchell Sitzmann — elementary special ed; Hayden Sturdevant — social studies; Michael Slaba — science; Breanne Greiner — business; Brandon Greiner — math; and Preston Preuss — social studies. Lisa Rienhardt will be the new administrative assistant.

o Heard a report from Principal Chad Brusky of the Trimont school, who said the need for a music teacher has just come up. He also noted that keyboarding in Trimont will be reduced and the sixth grade will have two sections next year.

o Heard a report that there will be a band concert May 6, a choir concert May 9 and an honors banquet May 19.

o Heard a report that the next school board meeting will be 6:30 p.m. May 20.
