Veterans Day events coming up

SHERBURN — Don’t forget the “Lunch and Learn” event going on today at the Senior Citizens Center in Sherburn. The presentation will begin 11 a.m., followed by a meal of scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, buns and pumpkin dessert.

Prairie Rehabilitation Therapy Department will talk about the services it offers.

Everyone is welcome.

Grilled burgers will be served 6-8 p.m. today at the Sherburn American Legion. All are invited.

Martin County West Elementary Basketball Association registration will begin 6 p.m. tonight at the high school in Sherburn.

Boys and girls, grades 4-6, and their parents should attend to get signed up for this winter’s basketball season. Payments will need to be made, forms filled out, coaches introduced, and uniforms and schedules handed out.

Dunnell Fire Department’s annual feather party will be held Friday night at the Dunnell Community Hall in Dunnell.

Bingo for dressed turkeys will begin at 7 p.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will host its annual harvest dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The public is welcome. Come and enjoy a delicious meal and a time for visiting with your friends and neighbors.

Please remember to give blood during the Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Monday at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. If you would like to make an appointment, call Dorothy at (507) 764-2107. Someone, somewhere, is in need of your blood, so if you’re able to do so, please take the time to donate.

Area servicemen will be recognized and honored in our community during the upcoming Veterans Day. All area veterans and spouses are invited to a meal at the Sherburn American Legion on Sunday. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a catered meal at 5:30 p.m.

On the menu will be broasted chicken, potato salad, vegetable, buns and ice cream.

Martin County West High School will host a Veterans Day program beginning 8:30 a.m. Monday in the gymnasium. The public is invited to attend.

Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn will have a special celebration in honor of our local veterans Monday in its Wellness Center. They will show “Honor Flight,” which is an organization that gives free flights to Washington, D.C., for veterans so they can tour the memorials. They will serve root beer floats, pumpkin bars and coffee to those in attendance.

All area veterans are urged to attend, as they will be given a small token of appreciation for their service.

This is a free event for the entire community.

City crews will vacuum up leaves on the curbs throughout the week in Sherburn. Afterward, the leaf vac will be put away for the year and no more leaves will be picked up. If you still have leaves you want to get rid of after this week, you will need to load them up and take them to the tree dump.

Sherburn Lions Club prime rib supper will take place 5-8 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Sherburn Legion.

Get your tickets in advance from any Lions Club member, Bank Midwest in Sherburn, from Todd at Amborn Lumber in Sherburn, or at the Photo Press in Fairmont. Tickets are $17 in advance, and will cost $20 at the door that night.

Proceeds will go toward community projects.

MCW all-school play “Fiddler on the Roof” will be presented next week at the Sherburn Theatre in Sherburn. Performances will be held 7 p.m. Nov. 16-17, with a matinee 2 p.m. Nov. 18. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. There will be concessions and a bake sale as well. Make plans now to attend.
