Koons, Sanders win election

FAIRMONT — Richard Koons of rural Welcome defeated incumbent Dan Schmidtke of rural Fairmont for the District 4 seat on the Martin County Commission on Tuesday.

Koons won by a margin of 57-42 percent.

Meanwhile, incumbent Diane Sanders defeated challenger Clark Berry for the job of county recorder. Sanders garnered 73 percent of the vote.

Commissioner Tom Mahoney in District 2, Sheriff Jeff Markquart, County Attorney Terry Viesselman, Auditor/Treasurer Jim Forshee and Surveyor Ben Madsen all ran unopposed and won re-election.
