The annual volleyball “Fight Cancer” night will be Thursday evening at Martin County West school in Trimont. All MCW volleyball players, their parents and coaches come together each year to make this night possible and to raise funds, promote cancer awareness and recognize cancer survivors.

Funds raised go directly to the Oncology Center at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont, Fairmont Community Hospital and Relay for Life.

Activities planned include a cancer survivor recognition walk, bake sale, silent auction and a volleyball-serving competition.

There will be lots of homemade goodies at the bake sale and numerous gift certificates. Maverick gear, donated items and hand-crafted items will be for sale at the silent auction.

n

Brad Haugen, the referee for the volleyball match Thursday night, has challenged the MCW players and fans to raise $1,000 in honor of a former MCW teacher and coach who lost her battle with cancer last December. Haugen is a Fairmont High School staff member and will donate his referee’s check from the night to kick off the event. He also promises that if $1,000 is raised, he will let the volleyball players shave his head after the match.

Please turn out to watch the volleyball match and to donate to this worthy cause. There’s no one in our MCW community who hasn’t been affected in some way by this disease. Let’s all come out and show our support.
