Truman to weigh plans for donation

TRUMAN — Truman City Council heard a brief update Monday from Mayor Lynn Brownlee regarding an auction that took place Sept. 21 for 160 acres of farm land, valued at $1.2 million, that was gifted to the city by Roger Jones.

Brownlee said she, Bethanie Ekstrom, Monte Rohman, Jones and a real estate agent all attended the auction, along with seven bidders.

Council members again expressed how grateful they are for the generous gift. The council set a special work session for 5:30 p.m. Monday to discuss the city’s next moves related to the donation.

In other business, the council heard a brief quarterly report from street superintendent John Bosshart, who said the seal coating project under in August went smoothly.

Bosshart also shared that they are beginning leaf pickup around town.

And he noted that as it soon gets colder, the city will shut off the water at the campground and at the park.

In another matter, Police Chief Justin Jobe gave a quarterly report. Besides saying the department has been fairly busy lately, he said he recently got his squad car inspected and both rear wheel bearings are going out.

He obtained a few quotes and reported that the estimate at Kitzerow is $530.

The council approved the bid to get the car fixed.
