Man facing felony counts

FAIRMONT — A Sherburn man is facing felony charges in Martin County.

Caleb Bradley Krusemark, 27, has been charged with two counts of issuing a dishonored check with a value of more than $500. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On July 25, a Fairmont police officer responded to the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center regarding a bad check. The officer met with a witness from Fleet & Farm Supply of Fairmont who indicated that Krusemark had come into the store July 1 and purchased several tools totaling $1,552.72. The witness provided a copy of the video surveillance from the store, and the officer could observe Krusemark talking on a phone while pushing a cart full of tools toward the register.

Later in the video, Krusemark is seen paying for the items, filling out a check, taking a picture of the check, and then handing the cashier his driver’s license. The cashier is then seen writing the number on the check, finishing the transaction and handing the sales receipt to Krusemark. The witness also provided the officer with the returned check and advised that Krusemark had stopped payment on the check.

The witness also advised of a second check written by Krusemark on July 3 in the amount of $965.27 to Fleet & Farm Supply to purchase more tools. The witness advised that the check was returned for non-sufficient funds. The second check had the same account and routing number as the first check, and Krusemark’s driver’s license number was also written on the second check.

The witness advised she had sent a Notice of Demand for Payment of Dishonored Check by certified mail to Krusemark, giving him an opportunity to pay for the items. The witness indicated that after no action by Krusemark, she reported it to law enforcement.

On Aug. 2, the officer conducted a phone interview with Krusemark. Krusemark admitted to passing checks at Fleet & Farm. He admitted he bought the tools and then pawned them off to pay some bills. Krusemark said he was arrested for doing the same thing in St. James and is working with his attorney to get the matter taken care of at both stores.
