Auditions open for kids
SHERBURN — CREST is sponsoring a “Lunch and Learn” event beginning 11 a.m. today at the Senior Citizens Center, 21 E. First St., in Sherburn.
The topic for the event is “Dementia Friends.” The goal of the program is to help people understand five key messages about dementia and how it affects people and how you can make a difference in the lives of those living with the disease.
A lunch with country-style ribs, garden vegetables and strawberry dessert will follow the presentation.
This event is free and no registration is needed. Everyone is welcome.
The monthly steak fry will take place Saturday at the Sherburn American Legion. Serving gets underway at 5 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Trimont will hold its annual FunFest celebration this weekend.
There will be a food trailer from Gerhardt’s Catering, as well as grilled pork chops by the Martin County Pork Producers beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.
A bean bag tournament for all ages will start at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the 5K run/walk registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the races starting at 8 a.m. There also will be a pancake breakfast beginning at 8 a.m.
Lots of other activities will be going on all day, including a softball tournament, volleyball tournament, Wild Things zoo attractions, inflatables for the kids, bingo and a beer garden.
The parade will start around 3 p.m., followed by a kid’s pedal tractor pull at 5 p.m.
The weekend will end Sunday with a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon and a community church service at 10 a.m.
Sherburn Library will host a “Food is Fun” program featuring Hy-Vee dietician Abby Kipfer at 3:30 p.m. July 18 at the Sherburn Community Hall. There is no cost to attend this event and no need to pre-register.
Auditions for the Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre presentation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will take place 1 p.m. July 23 at the Sherburn Theatre. Students between the ages of 7 and 17 are needed for this production.
Rehearsals will be held July 23-26 at the theatre.
Performances will be 7 p.m. July 27 and 10 a.m. July 28.
Anyone interested in participating is urged to attend the auditions on the 23rd.
Sherburn Civic and Commerce will host “Elegance for Main Street – A Black Tie Affair” on Aug. 3 at the Sherburn Community Hall.
Social hour will begin 5:30 p.m., with the meal beginning around 6:30 p.m.
The evening will feature special entertainment, a two-meat, three-course meal catered by Tami’s Catering and raffle prizes.
Tickets are now on sale from and any Civic and Commerce member.
Proceeds will go toward the Main Street beautification project.
Federated Rural Electric will hold its annual meeting Aug. 1 at the Martin County West Jr./Sr. High School in Sherburn.
The evening will include a meal of pork chop-on-a-stick grilled by the Martin County Pork Producers, cheesy hash browns, baked beans and a cookie, catered by Gerhardt Catering and nearly 50 door prizes that will be given away. There also will be a kid’s drawing for three bicycles.
