Blue Earth principal resigns

BLUE EARTH — The Blue Earth Area School Board on Monday accepted the resignation of high school principal Rich Schneider, who has taken the job of superintendent at Yellow Medicine East.

Blue Earth Area Superintendent Evan Gough said finding a replacement to fill the vacancy would be the best course of action for the board moving forward.

“Based on staff input and concerns that are out there from the standpoint of an added workload, as well as the needs of our district, I don’t think anyone would deny the fact that it might be best to have three principals,” Gough said. “As we look at the budget down the road, that may change.”

Board member Frankie Bly weighed in on the importance of hiring a new high school principal.

“Personally, I think with the challenges that we just went through this past year and dealing with the high school situation, I think we need a high school principal similar to what we had with Mr. Schneider,” Bly said. “I just think we need somebody there full time. There are certain issues that arise, and we need some continuity with the position.”

The board passed a motion to hire a new principal.

In a related matter, the board accepted the resignation of elementary teacher Sheri Schneider, wife of Rich Schneider.

Board chairman Jesse Haugh was complimentary of the work the Schneiders did during their tenure at Blue Earth Area.

“That was a very dynamic husband and wife duo that we had here in our district,” he said. “They did a lot, both inside the classroom and administratively. I wish them well in their new endeavor.”
