Memorial Day event set

TRUMAN — Commencement for the Truman High School class of 2018 begins 7 p.m. Friday in the Truman High School gymnasium. The public is invited to attend to wish them the best as they begin a new journey in their life.

Arlys Halverson turned 95 on May 23. An open house birthday celebration will be 1:30-4 p.m. Saturday in the basement at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Truman. Cards will reach her at P.O. Box 293, Truman, MN 56088. Happy birthday sister.

The annual Memorial Day program will begin 10 a.m. Monday in the Truman Elementary Auditorium, with all members of the public invited to attend.

The program will include the Truman Scouts, American Legion Post 115 and auxiliary, music by the Truman High School band, and patriot pictures from Monte and Shirley Rohman. The student address will be given by James Hodge.

A Legion 50-year membership will be presented to Kenneth Brummond, while 60-year memberships will be presented to Carl Vogt and Rodger Bosshart.

Prayers will be led by Pastor Nathan Rusert.

Memories of Jim Toothaker will be shared by Ken Greeley. Memories of Leon Barickman will be shared by Rodger Lehr, and memories of Roger Deeds will be shared by Ross Miller.

After the Memorial Day program at the school, a picnic will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Truman Community Building. Enjoy a pork loin sandwich or hot dog, chips, beans, assorted salads, dessert and a beverage for a donation.

The picnic is sponsored by the Truman Pool staff, with all proceeds going toward upgrades at the pool.

A First Aid/CPR class will be held 6 p.m. June 6 in the conference room at Truman High School. Registration is due by June 1. The instructor will be Sheila Denton. The cost is $20. To register, call Truman Community Education at (507) 327-6917 or email studerc@trumank12.mn.us

A Relay for Life Survivor Supper and program will be held 5 p.m. June 7 at the KC Hall in Fairmont. There will be a survivor quilt raffle and a donation for caregivers.

Survivors who attend will receive a free meal. RSVP before June 1, by calling or texting Torie at (507) 399-3667.

Summer volleyball camp led by the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks is open to all kids in grades K-12. Registration and payment are due by June 1. The camp dates are June 18-20. Noah’s Ark Adventure Vacation Bible School at Truman Church of Christ invites all children, age 4 through those entering sixth grade, to join them from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 4-8.

Learn about Noah, his family and the animals on the ark. You will enjoy lessons, crafts and refreshments each evening.

It’s that time of year again to choose a grand marshal for the Truman Days parade. Ballot boxes are located at Profinium, Truman Public Utilities, Truman Flowers and Gifts, Truman Historical Museum, Truman City Hall, Truman Library and Truman Tribune.

Simply fill out a ballot and indicate why you think the person, couple or organization should be chosen by June 15. Truman Days Committee will choose the winner at its June 17 planning meeting.

A list of past grand marshals will be posted by each ballot box.

Truman Days are held the fourth weekend in July. This year’s dates are July 26-29.

Memorial Day is an important time to remember and honor those who have given their lives so that our country can celebrate our freedom.
