Fairmont man facing charges

FAIRMONT — A 53-year-old Fairmont man is facing felony charges in Martin County.

Earic Johnson has been charged with two counts of narcotic sales in the third degree. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Nov. 28, an agent of the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force was in contact with a confidential informant who said it was possible to purchase meth from a person known as Earic Johnson. The informant advised it was possible to set up a deal and just needed to call Johnson before picking up. Prior to the deal, the agent met with the informant and fitted the informant with an audio wire, along with a designated amount of pre-recorded cash.

The agent advised the informant to try and purchase a little extra meth, then followed the informant to the meeting location. The informant met with Johnson outside. The pair then went into the house and completed the deal in the kitchen area. Upon completing the deal, the informant left and met with agents at a predetermined location.

An agent took custody of a small baggie containing a white crystalized substance that tested positive for meth.

On Feb. 8, the agent was in contact with another informant, who had a conversation with Johnson about purchasing meth. The process was repeated, and agents were able to conduct surveillance while the informant drove with Johnson to a source where the meth could be bought.

The individual they sought was not home, and Johnson gave the informant instructions to go to a different house. Upon arrival, Johnson went into the residence and exited a short time later. While en route back to Johnson’s residence, Johnson advised the informant he did not have the meth and they would have to go back.

The informant advised Johnson that the informant had to get home and asked Johnson for the money back. Johnson told the informant not to worry about it. Upon arriving at Johnson’s residence, Johnson removed a baggie containing a white substance from his pocket and gave it to the informant before going back inside his residence.

Agents then met with the informant at a secondary location, where he provided them with the baggie. The substance inside tested positive for meth.
