Blood drive exceeds goal

CEYLON — There will be a Red Cross blood drive 12:30-6:30 p.m. Monday at Covenant Church, 61 Main St. East in Trimont.

There will also be a blood drive Feb. 13-15 at the Fairmont Holiday Inn.


Despite some snowy weather at the beginning of the afternoon, the Red Cross blood drive in Ceylon last week passed the goal (28) set for units collected, with 36 units given from 30 donors. The Red Cross employees stayed past the hours scheduled in order to accommodate the donors.

Thank you to all the volunteers who registered and fed donors at the canteen. A big thank you to all the donors.


Ceylon City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. All members are urged to attend. There is a time for public comments at the beginning of each meeting.


Ceylon Legion and Sons of the Legion will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Legends 2/Legion building. All members are urged to attend.


Wednesday is Valentine’s Day and also Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Area churches are planning special services for Lent.

The dual parishes of Our Savior’s Lutheran in Ceylon and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert will share services each Wednesday during Lent. The first service with communion will be 6:30 p.m. on Ash Wednesday at Wilbert. The service for Feb. 21 will be 6:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s. They will alternate for the Wednesday mid-week services during Lent.

The Circle of Faith parishes, which includes St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon, will meet 6:30 p.m. for their Ash Wednesday service at Waverly Lutheran Church, north of Welcome.


Ceylon Fire Relief Association will host a pancake brunch from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at the Legends 2/Legion building in Ceylon. The cost will be a free will donation. The menu will include: pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, ham and a beverage. Circle the date and plan to attend.
