Man facing felony charge
TRIMONT — A Trimont man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.
Ronnie Franklin White, 54, has been charged with domestic assault by strangulation, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
According to the complaint:
At 11:24 p.m. Jan. 5, a Trimont police officer was dispatched to a physical domestic altercation at a residence in the 300 block of East Ash Street in Trimont. Upon arrival, the officer observed a male, later identified as White, throwing items out the front door. The officer ordered White to step out of the house and he was placed in handcuffs.
The officer entered the residence and spoke with a woman, whom he observed to be emotional and distressed. The woman indicated she and White were in a semi somewhere in Missouri, as they are over-the-road truck drivers. She said that while on the road, they got into a verbal argument, and White reached across and punched her with a closed fist.
She said she then went to the cab of the semi to try to sleep, and was later woken to White repeatedly hitting her. She indicated they returned to the residence in Trimont at 8 p.m., where they continued arguing. She stated it got physical again, and White punched her in the head multiple times.
She indicated he then put his hands around her throat and choked her. She said that during this time she could feel her airway constricted to the point of not being able to breathe. She also said that while he was choking her, she feared for her life. She also indicated she attempted to call 911, but White continued to take her phone and hang up.
The officer observed a large bump over her eye and could tell it was swollen. The officer also observed two different red marks on each side of her throat.
