Lunch, learn event today

SHERBURN — A “Lunch and Learn” event sponsored by CREST will be held 11 a.m. today at the Sherburn Senior Citizens Center. The topic this month is “Behind the Scenes of Super Bowl 52.”

They will provide a lunch consisting of pork sliders, tailgate side dishes and dessert.

These informational gatherings are held the first Wednesday of each month at the senior citizen center in Sherburn. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

They will be serving grilled hamburgers from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. Everyone is welcome.


Martin County West students in grades 7-12 will have the opportunity to hear keynote speaker Joe Schmit, a Minnesota sports anchor for KSTP, at 8:30 a.m. this morning at the high school gym in Sherburn.


Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn will hold its annual “Quilt Walk” from 1-3 p.m. Sunday in the basement at the Sherburn Community Hall.

More than 40 quilts from the 2017 Block-of-the-Month class entitled “Asteria” will be on display. The 2018 Block-of-the-Month “Forest Floor” will be shown as well.

Everyone is invited to come view these beautiful quilts made by talented quilters from our area.


There will be an Elementary Basketball Association tournament going from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the high school gym in Sherburn.


Congratulations to the following MCW students for being selected to represent MCW as the following award winners: Triple A awards — Jordan Stahl, daughter of Tim and Liz Stahl, and Colby Williamson, son of Justin and Jill Williamson; ExCel awards — Alyssa Williamson, daughter of Jamie and Deb Williamson, and Nicholas Potthoff, son of Eldon and Laura Potthoff; HOBY award — Gianna Henningsen, daughter of Brad and Ann Henningsen.


There will be a men’s rec night 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the high school gym in Sherburn.

There also will be hall walking for everyone from 7-8 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday at all MCW schools.


If you had a real Christmas tree this holiday season, remember there’s free tree recycling for Sherburn and Dunnell residents at the Sherburn Nursery, and for residents of Trimont at the Trimont city brush site (call Trimont City Hall for times). Trees may be dropped off at either of these sites through Jan. 6.

Please remember this is for real trees only. No wreaths or roping, tree stands or ornaments.
