Faribault Co. names attorney
BLUE EARTH — Faribault County commissioners on Tuesday filled the vacant county attorney position.
The position opened when Troy Timmerman was appointed the new judge for Faribault County District Court, following the retirement of longtime judge Douglas Richards.
Applicants for the position were interviewed by a panel of seven people, including Commissioner John Roper and Commissioner Greg Young.
The board unanimously voted to hire Kathryn Karjala-Curtis as the new county attorney.
Karjala-Curtis has worked in Martin County as the assistant county attorney. Prior, she worked as an associate attorney at a private practice in Mankato.
Karjala-Curtis will begin her new duties on Jan. 15, and fill the term through Dec. 31.
In other action, commissioners:
o Appointed Young as the board chairman and Tom Loveall as vice chairman.
o Went over a five-year plan of public works projects, including construction on four bridges in 2018.
o Set the gopher bounty for Faribault County in 2018 at $2 for pocket gophers and 50 cents for striped and grey gophers. This is consistent with the 2017 rate.
