City names contest winners

CEYLON — Area churches are scheduling Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.

The Circle of Faith congregation at St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon will have a Sunday School service 7 p.m. Sunday.

The other Circle of Faith congregations in Welcome and Waverly will have 5 p.m. Christmas Eve candlelight services with communion on Sunday.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert will have a Christmas Eve children’s service 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and a Christmas Day service at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon will have a 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve service Sunday and a Christmas Day service at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

All area residents are welcome at the service of their choice to help celebrate the reason for the season, Jesus’ birth.


There was a Christmas party for area children last Sunday.

The Ceylon Festival committee would like to thank those who attended and especially those who volunteered and helped with their time, talents or donations. About 40 children had a fun afternoon.


Congratulations to the winners of the Ceylon holiday lighting contest sponsored by the city of Ceylon. Three first-place winners received a $30 credit on their utility bills.

In the Traditional Holiday category, the winners were Scott and Vicki Smith.

The winners in the Most Festive category were Mike and Kathy Daisy.

The winners for Best Display were Rodney and Jacci Yahnke.

There were six honorable mention winners that received a $10 credit on their utility bill: Jim and Toots Morris, Tom and Rita Beckendorf, Angie Ziemer, Ron and Jean Morris, DJ and Tyan Brede, and Sherry Schmidt.

Thank you for making the city more decorative and giving all the residents Christmas enjoyment with your lighting projects.
