Busy Saturday in the works
WELCOME — Saturday will be a busy day for the area.
In the morning, there is a benefit pancake feed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Martin County West High School in Sherburn. Free will donations will help Rachel Schafer with expenses incurred while she has had kidney illness, dialysis and open heart surgery.
Rachel is a MCW graduate and daughter of Phil and Julie (Thiesse) Schafer.
Sherburn Lions will serve pancakes and there will be a bake sale with Christmas goodies.
In the afternoon, there will be two events at the Welcome Legion.
First, the cribbage tournament will begin at 1:15 p.m. All area cribbage lovers are encouraged to participate in the fun.
The second event will be a craft/vendor show from 1-4 p.m., with many different crafts and vendors along with coffee and cookies.
Register for a gift certificate from Sterling Drug and do some Christmas shopping.
There will be children’s Christmas services Sunday at area churches.
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome will have its children’s Christmas service at 9:30 a.m., while Trinity Lutheran in Welcome and Waverly Lutheran north of Welcome will both have children’s Christmas services at 10:30 a.m.
Welcome City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. All members are urged to attend.
There’s always a time for community comments at the beginning of each meeting.
A reminder from the post office that Tuesday is the deadline to mail packages first class to ensure they will get to their destination by Christmas.
