‘Shop with a Cop’ seeks donors

WELCOME — The cribbage tournament begins again Saturday at the Welcome Legion, with registration at 1:15 p.m.

Cribbage will be played the third Saturday each month from November through March. The public is welcome to join friends and neighbors for a fun afternoon.

n

Welcome Legion Auxiliary will not meet this winter. Watch for further notice in March.

n

Welcome City Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. All members are urged to attend.

There is a time for public comment at the beginning of each meeting. Items for the agenda need to be given to the city clerk before the meeting.

n

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. I hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Area churches are scheduling special services Wednesday.

All Circle of Faith parishes are invited to a joint celebration 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ congregation will have a special service 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

All area residents are welcome to attend any of these services.

Police officer Nicholas Smith reminds area residents that nominations for children in need to participate in the Shop with a Cop program should be in to him by Nov. 30. Eligible children must be in kindergarten through sixth grade, have social or economic need, and live within the Martin County West school district.

For more information, to nominate a child or to donate to the program, please contact Officer Smith at P.O. Box 344, Sherburn, MN 56171, go online at www.nsmith@Sherburnwelcomepolice.org or call (952) 292-5898.

The number of children they’ll be able to help will be limited by the amount of donations. Each child chosen will be shopping with officers from the department at area stores.

After the shopping, they will wrap the presents and have pizza with the officers. This is a way for the police officers to make a positive contribution to the communities and give local children and families a better, brighter holiday season.

Donations would be appreciated.
